In an interview with Empapel’s digital magazine (Brazilian Paper Packaging Association), Ricardo Lacombe Trombini, a member of the board of directors, discussed the key differences and principles that guide Trombini Packaging’ business operations, particularly in promoting sustainability. He also shared insights into the company’s planned investments for 2021. Check it out!

How long has Trombini been operating in the packaging market and what is its purpose?
The company has been operating in the multilayer bags and corrugated cardboard market for 57 years, offering packaging solutions and making a significant contribution to our value chain.

Regarding sustainability, what are the planned investments, and what has been accomplished in recent years?
Since the start of corrugated cardboard production, the sector has steadily established itself as an effective transport packaging solution, outperforming other alternatives.
The key factor in the current context is that, alongside efficiency, the product must meet both environmental and digital requirements. These are competitive advantages naturally embedded in the physical and logistical characteristics of corrugated cardboard, which are crucial today in the sustainability agendas of both companies and governments.
In response to the market’s demand for both volume and quality, the company has invested in state-of-the-art technology in recent years. This investment has continually enhanced productivity and improved quality indicators for products and services, covering all integrated processes within the company—from fiber and paper to packaging.
Focusing on innovation, our packaging portfolio offers not only essential functionality but also features graphic development and secure closure. This defines a specialized approach to our products.

How was the challenging year of 2020 for Trombini?
Last year and this year have been incredibly challenging. The pandemic created many uncertainties regarding raw material demands and prices, but the biggest challenge was figuring out how to protect the health of society while continuing to operate.
We remained committed to providing excellent service to our customers and ensuring the health and safety of our employees at all levels—ranging from strategic leadership to those directly involved in operations. Everyone has shown remarkable dedication and commitment to the company’s objectives, as well as a strong sense of responsibility in helping keep the country moving by supplying essential products.

What are the company’s plans for 2021? Are there any investments planned?
With optimism and confidence in a new economic cycle in Brazil, and recognizing the resilience and competitiveness of the packaging solutions sector, the company’s board of directors has approved the construction of a new corrugated cardboard unit in Fraiburgo, Santa Catarina, next to our existing paper mill.
The project is set to begin in the second half of 2022.
This investment reflects the company’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for physical expansion and providing the best products for our customers, which is our core mission.
